GOLF CART CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS AND CARE TIPS

Your golf cart is more than just a way to get from A to B — it’s your everyday companion, whether you’re cruising around the estate, heading to the clubhouse or simply enjoying the outdoors. Regular cleaning and care will help keep your golf cart looking its best and operating smoothly. Follow these simple golf cart cleaning tips to keep your E-Z-GO looking and functioning like new.

Wash regularly:

Wash your golf cart at least every two weeks, or more often if conditions such as dust, mud or rain require it.

Pre-rinse tough dirt:

Dried mud can be abrasive if you scrub it into the paint with a sponge. Instead, rinse loose dirt with a gentle stream of water first.

Use gentle cleaning products:

Wash the exterior with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid harsh cleaners, rough sponges and abrasive cloths, as these can damage the finish. Never use bleach or ammonia as these will fade the paint and can make plastic trim brittle. For painted surfaces, rather use automotive car wash soap.

Clean the windshield carefully:

Use mild soap and water to clean the windshield with a soft microfibre cloth. Using paper towels or old rags could leave micro scratches on the windscreen which will over time cause the screen to become hazy. Also avoid overspray from dashboard or cowl cleaning products.

Dash care:

Avoid spraying any cleaner directly onto the dashboard as liquid can run down into the key switch, light switches and charging ports. Rather spray cleaner onto a soft micro fibre cloth, and wipe down the surfaces. To clean around switches, use a soft brush or toothbrush.

Upholstery care:

In the case of upholstery, prevention is batter than cure. Apply a UV protector (leather, vinyl or plastic conditioner) onto upholstery every 2-3 months. When parking your cart outside for extended periods of time, rather use a storage cover or install a sun shade to block direct UV through the windscreen onto the seats.

Use a hose under the seat:

When cleaning areas beneath the seat, it is recommended to use a regular garden hose rather than a high-pressure washer.

Take care with high-pressure washing:

If using a pressure washer, keep the pressure to a maximum of 750 psi. Always direct the spray carefully and only onto external components. Avoid spraying directly onto seals, bearings, the engine or wheels, as high-pressure water can cause damage. Never point a pressure washer at anything electrical. Use a garden hose with a gentle spray or – better yet – a damp cloth.

Battery Maintenance: 

Remember to pay attention to the battery terminals and tops of your lead-acid golf cart. Dirty or corroded battery terminals increase resistance, which reduces charging efficiency and can shorten battery life. To avoid corrosion around the batteries, use a mixture of water and baking soda to clean the tops of your batteries. To clean, first disconnect the negative battery cable. Mix baking soda and water (approximately 45ml of baking soda to one litre of water) into a paste. Apply it to the battery tops and around the terminals with a bristle brush, avoiding getting the solution into the battery cells. Then rinse it off with a damp cloth (not a hose) and dry thoroughly.
